FanTAStic idea!! I've been working hard, fast, and furious on this whole scripting thing for magic for a while, and I can tell you that it isn't as easy as some seem to make it out to be...but it is the most rewarding part when the presentation grabs their attention as much as the actual trick!

Hi Lee,
Great story, it really is so true that the simplest effects can be baffling to lay audiences with a great script and presentation.
I think your manuscript idea is a solid idea... it is quite similar to Pete McCabe's book, "Scripting Magic." If you have it, check out page 350, where Eric Henning's script for his "Silk Vanish" (using the same method as the "Sugar Vanish" you described above) is described. The "Silk Vanish" script coincidentally is a script that can mainly be applied in a Family Restaurant environment.
So I would say, the idea is great, as evidenced by the success of "Scripting Magic." So if you decide to go for it, just red "Scripting Magic" first to be sure you're not overlapping on scripts.
Tips on scripting, where one gets inspiration for script ideas, notes on presentation, etc., would also be good to include.
Hope that helps,
Cheers,
V.

I am very much enjoying these clips and being able to see and hear Bill talk about his favorite magic topic! It is also good to see him not wearing the cup on his head. Keep up the great effort on this ... Bill is a unique magic personality and he needs to be preserved !!

I really enjoy these little chats. It's good to hear what old codgers like Bill have to say about Cups and Balls. Grand stuff here lads. Thanks to you both for sharing the rapport you've developed.

Nope, I mean that Ammar's routine does not appear on the Complete Cups & Balls DVDs. A performance of it is on his Exciting World of Magic DVD, though. For a real explanation (and I'd have to disagree that the routine is that similar to the Professor's; especially the interplay and final load pun) we have to look in print: either MAJ, the Magic of Michael Ammar, or the Complete Cups & Balls book. I would love for a performance of Michael's C&B to be on the CC&B DVDs, so we could have everything in one place!

Chet, I think you mean they do not have Vernon's routine explained on the dvd (although it can be found in Vernon's books). Ammar's routine is on his cups and balls video fully explained. However, Ammar's routine is very much similar to Vernon's and so much of Ammar's teaching can be applied. Thanks for checking the video out, more to come.

Those DVDs do not have Ammar's routine. It only appears (unexplained) on his Exciting World of Magic DVD.

My college major was history, so I find Bill's thoughts on the history of cups and balls fascinating. Thanks to Lee & Bill for this series of videos. I look forward to the finished product.
